What is an immigration evaluation?
An immigration evaluation is a specialized mental health assessment conducted by a licensed professional to support various immigration cases. It helps explain how your mental health, trauma, or specific life experiences (like abuse or persecution) are relevant to your immigration application or defense, providing crucial evidence for immigration authorities.
VAWA
A VAWA evaluation documents the emotional, psychological, and mental health impact of abuse experienced by those seeking protection under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
Hardship
A Hardship evaluation, also known as a Cancellation of Removal, is used if you are at risk for being deported or denied entry to the U.S., and need to show how your U.S. citizen or permanent resident family member would suffer "extreme hardship" if you were forced to leave.
T-Visa
A T-Visa evaluation explores the deep emotional and psychological wounds caused by forced labor, sexual exploitation, or other forms of trafficking. This evaluation is key to proving to immigration authorities that you need protection and would face a risk of re-trafficking if sent back to your home country.
Asylum
This evaluation documents the emotional and psychological impact of persecution, violence, or threats you experienced in your home country, while also demonstrating a well-founded fear of what could happen if you return.

Immigration evaluations can be highly useful because they provide crucial, objective mental health evidence to support complex immigration cases. They help immigration authorities understand the deep psychological impact of trauma, abuse, or hardship you have experienced, which can be essential for demonstrating eligibility for various forms of immigration relief.

The clinical evaluation process is designed to be as clear and supportive as possible. We begin with some initial paperwork for you to complete, which helps me gather important background information. Following that, we will have a comprehensive in-depth interview, which typically lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours, and may be split into two interviews. This is a safe and respectful space for you to share your story, and I will guide you through the process with care. To further support the evaluation, I may use standardized assessment tools or questionnaires to document and understand your current psychological state. After our meeting, I will prepare a comprehensive, 12-15 page report that details my findings and provides a professional opinion based on our interview. This report is written in a clear, professional style that your attorney can use as a key piece of evidence for your immigration case.

To determine if you need an immigration evaluation, you should consult with your immigration attorney. They are the best person to advise you on whether a clinical evaluation would strengthen your specific case.
An immigration evaluation may be necessary if your case involves:
Trauma or persecution: If you are applying for asylum due to past persecution, an evaluation can document the psychological effects of that trauma (such as PTSD, anxiety, or depression), which can support the credibility of your story.
Hardship to a U.S. citizen or legal resident: For a hardship waiver, an evaluation can explain the "extreme and unusual hardship" that a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) family member would face if you were deported. The evaluation can detail the emotional, psychological, and financial impact of this separation on them.
Victim of a crime: If you are a victim of domestic violence (VAWA) or human trafficking (T-visa), a psychological evaluation can help to corroborate your experience by documenting the psychological impact of the abuse or trafficking. It can explain why you may have been unable to leave the situation or report the crime immediately.
In short, if your case requires a professional explanation of how past events have affected your mental and emotional well-being, an immigration evaluation may be a crucial part of your legal strategy.

The cost for a comprehensive immigration evaluation is a flat fee of $1000.00. This fee covers all aspects of the evaluation process, from the initial intake and in-depth interview to the preparation of your final, detailed report.
Please note that this fee does not include the cost of an interpreter, if one is needed. I may be able to recommend a qualified interpreter for you to work with.
In cases where a report is needed on an expedited timeline, an additional fee will be applied. This extra cost accounts for the immediate prioritization of your case to ensure your report is completed within your required time frame.
